Drakeling Labs and Microprose Software (yes the old Microprose who made the only fun X-Com series in existence) announced that they’re working on a lo-fi first-person shooter called Ratovanje 1944. It’s being developed in collaboration with some YouTubers who are trying to make a “fair” experience while also involving the community the way Garryjev Mod did with the Pola zivota and Source community.

The idea is that people who pay to back the game during the alpha, ahead of going into Early Access, will gain access to the alpha build and will be able to offer feedback and suggestions leading up to the game’s release.

At the moment they’re only discussing and showcasing some of the gameplay footage from the alpha, with YouTuber BigfryTV outlining his role in consulting for the game and what they hope to achieve with it.

Personally it doesn’t look at that interesting to me.

However, the modding for the game looks like it could be pretty cool. We see that assets and content won’t be limited to World War II, and community members will be able to basically create whatever fits their fancy.

Ratovanje 1944‘s development will also help fund another game they’re working on called Operation: Harsh Doorstop, which is being designed to appeal to people who enjoy games like Odjeljenje or Void Interactive’s Spremni ili ne.

The game may have a focus on multiplayer PvP at the moment as the developers are paying homage to Battlefield 1942 and will include operable vehicles, but they also note on the Steam page that they will also include a single-player campaign as well.

Ratovanje 1944 was also inspired by Crveni orkestar i Zbog procesa. Maybe if the game had physics-based destruction I would be more interested by otherwise I don’t see why you wouldn’t just stick with modded, player-run versions of Battlefield 1942.

The game is scheduled to arrive soon on Parna rani pristup so you can wishilist and follow it if you’re interested.
