After appearing in the Square Enix Collective and launching for PC, PS4 and Xbox One back in May of this year, Throughline Games announced that the cinematic side-scroller called Forgotton Anne will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

The game definitely looked like something that belonged on the Nintendo Switch, and I was just amazed that it took this long for the announcement to arrive. Alfred Nguyen, the creative director and co-founder of ThroughLine Games, also noted that the game was a perfect fit for the Switch, mentioning in the press release that they had always intended for the game to appear on Nintendo’s hybrid console…

“It was always only going to be a matter of time before Forgotton Anne made its way over to Nintendo Switch. We are big fans of Nintendo’s inventive platform and experiencing Forgotton Anne in handheld mode feels amazing even for us and we believe it’s a perfect match for Switch’s fast expanding audience.”

The game is a throwback to the old-school animated games like Drugi svijet i Srce tame. You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the gameplay looks like.

The game centers around Anne, who resides in alternate universe where lost objects are stored. The objects come to life and only ever leave if they’re remember from the world in which they originally came.

Anne works with Bonku to maintain order in the land of the forgotten, until soon she and Bonku find out that there may be a way for them to return to the human world. Anne, however, encounters opposition from a rebellion and other characters as she ventures around attempting to quell dissent and find a way back home.

The art and charm reminds me a lot of classic animated tales like Mali Nemo i Nausicaa doline vjetra.

Forgotton Anne is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $19.99. When it launches in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch it will do so with a 10% off discount for two weeks.
