The tired old talk of “video game prices need to increase with the times” has reared its head once again, and this time its Ubisoft heading the conversation after 2K and Visual Concepts kicked it off with NBA 2K21 što je skuplje za naredne gene.
Uz to, rekao je, gamesindustry.biz picked up on Ubisoft’s Q1 earnings call today, where CEO Yves Guillemot answered various questions regarding next-gen games. This inevitably led to Guillemot having to face the price hike conversation and the company’s future portfolio price point.
Here’s what Guillemot had to say about the situation:
“For the Christmas games, we plan to come with the same price as the previous generation of consoles. That’s what we’re focused on at the moment.”
The publication site notes that on another occasion, Guillemot answers an investor’s question that leaves the door open for next-gen games by Ubisoft to boast a higher price than what is currently available from the company this gen.
So what does this all mean? Well, it means that Ubisoft plans on keeping the $59.99 price point this generation as well as during this year’s holiday season, which will introduce next-gen consoles and games.
In other words, after the holiday season, we could see Ubisoft’s next-gen games boast a new price tag on them. However, that’s not including other paid fluff like microtransactions, DLC, season passes, and Uplay exclusive content.
