Platinum Games and Square Enix have released a new 20 minute long video showing gameplay from NieR: Automati during this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The new video shows two game modes, and commentary from the stage event. NieR: Automati is set to come out in Japan on February 23rd next year, while the West will get the game sometime early in 2017.
That’s right, Square Enix took advantage of their stage time during Tokyo Game Show 2016 and displayed more than 20 minutes of gameplay from NieR: Automati Story Mode and Time Attack Mode.
Like most gameplay videos that go live this one too contains commentary by the devs. So if they drown out the music or sounds in the game it’s just something you will have to deal with while the video plays.
Looking over to the context of the video, we the viewers get to see YoRHa No.2 Type B (or 2B) running through an industrial plant with Pascal, one of the most recent characters revealed. Additionally, the Time Attack mode appears afterwards showing arcade-like action.
There is one thing that I do find strange with this game, I don’t really like when the camera zooms-out so far that it turns everything into small figures. Hopefully they provide a zoom-in button to see the action better. I say this, because when he was playing that bridge part if it had not been for the circular UI and the map there would not be a proper way to see yourself or enemies correctly.
With that said, I do like how the camera pans around and shows off the game’s distinct aesthetics and build design, I think there should just be an option to kinda contour the camera to see one of the main focal points in the game better, which is close-combat.

If the above video seems interesting to you there’s good news coming right up. A demo is in the works so that fans can try out NieR: Automati. This was announced on the same stage event, along with a special limited “Black Box Edition” of the game.
As for the demo the devs are targeting somewhere around Q4 2016, which is around the end of this year, and will most likely be for PS4. According to the producer of the game, Yosuke Saito, during an interview with Famitsu, he had noted that…
“I want users to properly experience NieR: Automata with a demo of a 30-to-40 minute, sit-down-and-play kind of volume.”
NieR: Automati is set to launch for PS4 in Japan on February 23rd. The West will gain not only a PS4 version of the upcoming game but also a PC variant via Steam, which is set for early 2017.
