It’s quite obvious that this game, Asura, steps into the role many other Greenlight games in terms of its description — randomly generated content and the famously used tag (and word) rogue-like. However, it also brings its own merits to the table, which is fluent top-down hack and slash action.

Set to hit PC, developer Ogre Head Studio seeks to bring their vengeful demon game to Greenlight, hoping that it will pass through after receiving enough votes. Something worth noting, although it follows any other indie procedurally generated rogue-like game, it does bring a nice bit of polish to its mechanics.

All-in-all, it looks like a fun top-down beat ’em up game. Honestly, I do like beat ’em up games, and seeing Asura rocking the genre with a TD camera style, I think it will easily make it through Greenlight.

“Asura is a Hack ‘n’ Slash game with rogue-like elements and procedurally generated skill tree. Loosely inspired from Indian mythos, play as Asura, the demon incarnate and obliterate your way through the randomly generated fortress of the Daeva empire. Equip weapons from a wide variety of arsenal and carefully craft your character using the ever changing skill tree. The game can be brutal but is always fair. Can you rise from the ashes? Can you defeat the Daeva empire?”

One thing that I want to point out before showing the video, I think the randomly generated skills are a bad thing. I say this because it feels lazy, chops the player’s experience with the skills, and forces players to replay the game to find skills that fit their preference. I think replay value should be a natural thing that speaks through a well crafted game, but not through randomly generated content like this. Hopefully the devs make it where the skill tree has an option where you can choose between randomly generated or progressive skills.
